High school football from Thursday night as the Southwest Guilford varsity topped Winston-Salem Parkland in the last regular season game for both the Cowboys and the Mustangs.

The SWG Cowboys are still a long shot to reach the playoffs, now at (4-7/1-5), with last night’s win and as for the game, the Cowboys rode the Mustangs to victory….

Here’s the word from www.hpe.com/The High Point Enterprise:

WINSTON-SALEM – Whether it be the end of a regular season or the conclusion of play for the 2009 season overall for Southwest Guilford, the Cowboys picked a tremendous time to play their most complete game: Their first conference win of the season.

Southwest’s defense thwarted Parkland’s offense and set the pace for the team’s 20-6 victory Thursday night at Deaton-Thompson Stadium.

“We made a decision in the offseason to be better on defense and we have really improved defensively,” Cowboys coach Scott Schwarzer said. “I’m really proud of the effort from my kids. If this is the way we’re ending it, my kids are going out winners.”
