More on Guilford-Greensboro College men

Greensboro, NC – Guilford College got off to a fast start and defeated Greensboro College, 76-49, at the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday night. Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen) led The Pride with a program record seven blocked shots and had a team-high 12 points. He also collected a game-high eight rebounds.

Clay Henson had a game-high 14 points for Guilford (2-0). The Quakers shot 42-percent (29-69) for the game to 29-percent (20-68) for The Pride.

The Quakers, ranked second in the nation, started the game like a top-ranked team. Guilford outscored The Pride 28-0 before Owenby made a jumper with 12:25 left in the first half. Guilford led 54-17 at the break. The Pride shot just 22 percent (7-32) in the first 20 minutes.

Thirteen Guilford playrs scored in the contest. Rhett Bonner had 12 points and Tyler Sanborn added 11.

Jason Baker (Detroit, MI/Anchor Bay Prep) came off the bench to tie Owenby with 12 points.

Guilford out-rebounded The Pride 53-37. GC (0-2) committed just nine turnovers to 11 for the Quakers.
