  1. Good job SG!! I think they are ready to play this year. I hear SG hasn’t beat Trinity in years!! Kamille is gonna have a breakout season. I’m excited to see how the other players step up.

  2. Southern do not get too excited about one win. We will win the conference because we have good coaches and players. We beat EG! We were a little off last night but we will be back. We cannot wait to play yall twice! 2-0 BABY!

  3. SG beat WG in 1st game last year, then lost eleven in a row to finish 5-19. They play Smith Dec. 8th. This game will most likey expose their weaknesses, especially from an offensive standpoint.

  4. SG’s women team is mostly new with 4 freshmen playing and starting seniors lost. Therefore, you cannot negatively compare this team with last year’s team. Last year’s team lost by 20+ to Trinity.

The difference i saw was that they bought into Whitaker’s system and stuck together ot get the win. Trinity is very disciplined and not easily shaken. They overcame an early lead to enjoy a commanding lead in the 3rd and 4th quarters. However, whereas last year’s team would have lost some of their spirit, this team kept plugging along making mini runs until Horne’s shots started falling.

“The facts” is right. The Smith game will be a good test for the SG women. SG will have their senior starting point guard back (who often shot better than Horne last year) and their offense should run more smoothly. Say what you want, at the end of the day, a win is a win.

NEG Supporter…there’s nothing wrong with school spirit but let’s be real: putting up 24 points for a complete game?!?!? That’s more than a “little off”! NE had their complete squad right?

But as they say we can talk all day on these blogs, the game will be decided on the court.

    Good luck to all!

  5. “Next?”, you make an interestng point about NE only scoring 24. I agree, but I think part of the reason is that WG is improved this year. And then I realized SG will play WG right before Smith. WG vs. SG might be a test for both teams. Sidenote: my previous post was not intended to downplay SG, they had a tough year last year. It’ll be interesting to see how they respond this year.

  6. Facts,

My “a win is a win” statement was placed at the beginning of my post. As I typed more and more, it moved down. I did not take it as you downplaying SG at all. While we hope your opinion about SG vs Smith is not 100% correct, Smith is probaly one of the toughest opponents SG girls will face this year.

I also agree with you that WG has improved by leaps and bounds. They are big and have great speed as well. When Tirzah’s confidence is up, she goes from good to great! These girls are are a tough matchup for ANY team – not just SG.

It just takes a while to build a winning tradition and every positive aspect must be noted. It takes no time to fall into a losing culture. No matter how skilled a player is, we see the same thing over and over again. “One cannot beat five”. “Attitude determines altitude”. Corny on paper but the undisputable truth on the court. Last night, I saw some overmatched girls work hard and stick together. They were rewarded by a victory against a great, disciplined team.

I just hope that the “Look cool and lose rather than try hard and lose” virus does not reappear this year for the SG girls. Some of these teams have been so good for so long. I hope this program has finally turned the corner.

  7. Is it me or is the scoring considerably lower for the girl’s basketball teams? I’ve been out of high school and college for quite some time now but I noticed here in the last few years that the girls may be taller and stronger but the scoring is lower than when I played. It was nothing to score 60, 70 even 80 points in a game.

    What gives??

  8. Our Northern girls are killing teams down in South Carolina. We beat a team that was 14-12 last year pretty bad. We shut Lexington down 52-12. They did not win a game last year. We are ready! We are undefeated. Dudley yall better be glad we do not play yall this year. Look out GCounty, here we come!
