NCAA shopping March Madness – CBS might lose it

Word is the the NCAA has an escape clause that releases them from their TV contract with CBS for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Finals – aka March Madness.

The NCAA is also thinking about explaning the Final 65 to the Final 96 (with 32 First Round Byes).

It’s all about the money. I think that the NCAA is concerned about the health of the broadcast industry. Their contract with CBS is back-loaded; meaning that most of the money is paid later in the contract as opposed to paying the same each year. The possibility of a contract default is unlikely; but a renegotiation is possible.

  1. I’m all for it. Both Fox and ESPN have better HD broadcasts and production value than CBS, Especially if you have TWC locally.
