Aaron Toomeys 45 points propelled the Villains to the overtime victory against 3A power Nansemond River from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Bishops Steve Marrujo nailed a 3 at the end of the first half to cut the Warriors lead to 2 at the half. A back and forth contest in the second half saw eight lead changes and the Villains making free throws down the stretch led by Toomey (26-29 FT). Toomey missed a shot at the end of regulation to go to OT.

In OT the lead changed hands twice but a driving layup by Toomey and defensive rebound by Trey Tatum sealed the game for the Villains. Bishop inbounded and Toomey got fouled and made both free throws for the final margin.

Bishop, who won SMOC titles in ’07 and ’08 will face host Rockingham County HS Wednesday night at 7 pm for the championship.

  1. This kid is definitely a D1 prospect. He is potentially a double-double player @ a SoCon or Big South school right now. He is a tireless worker who plays “D” too. If I were an ACC school, I would make him an invited walk-on right this minute.

  2. Toomeys a baller if you don’t think so, come see him play and get your five dollars worth.

  3. I thought last year when I saw him Toomey had D I skills with D II or D III athletic ability. Very smart player. Think he is more likely D II because of frame and speed but who knows. Surprised though that he put up those numbers against Nansemond River who I thought was a very strong athletic team that won the state championship in VA IF it is the same one I am thinking of.

  4. Toomey could easily play at a small D1 and give valuable minutes his freshman year. He’s one of the most underrated players in the state. He plays on a decent team, but he is the only real scoring threat. Teams know that, and they double team him. But he still gets his 30 a game. If you havent seen Toomey play, you’re missing out on one heck of a show
