Greensboro College earned three weekly awards presented by the USA South on Monday. Pride basketball players Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen), Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) and Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) were honored by the conference for the recent play.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen), Greensboro – The junior center from Black Mountain, North Carolina averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per contest as The Pride went 1-1 last week. In a 93-78 loss to Maryville, Owenby set a school-record by going a perfect 12-for-12 from the floor. Owenby finished with a career and game-high 27 points plus four rebounds, a team-high two blocks and one steal. In a 60-58 win over USA South foe Averett, Owenby scored nine points, grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and blocked a game-high two shots.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham), Greensboro – The junior guard from Graham, North Carolina helped The Pride to a 2-1 record versus USA South competition last week by averaging 27.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.6 steals per contest. In a 67-50 victory over Peace, Wilborn totaled 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. In a 72-65 loss to Meredith, Wilborn tallied a team-high 27 points with six rebounds, a game-high six steals and four assists. Finally, in a 60-58 win over Averett, Wilborn scored a game-high 31 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and collected one steal.
Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Bianca Richburg, Greensboro – The freshman forward from Mebane, North Carolina helped The Pride to a 2-1 record versus USA South competition last week by averaging 17.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. In a 67-50 win over Peace, Richburg tallied a double-double with game-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds. She also added four steals and a game-high two blocks in the victory. In a 72-65 loss to Meredith, Richburg contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one block. Finally, in a 58-41 victory over Averett, Richburg scored eight points, grabbed ten rebounds, blocked a game-high three shots, dished out two assists and collected one steal.
