SEG’s Gibbs has dibs on MVP award as Quaker women roll over Randolph 76-43

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jazlyn Gibbs (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) led four Quakers in double-figure scoring with 15 points in Guilford College’s 76-43 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over visiting Randolph College Tuesday night.

Guilford (8-5, 5-3 ODAC) won for the sixth time in eighth games with a strong defensive effort that held the Wildcats (2-11, 1-8 ODAC) to 28.6 percent field-goal shooting. The Quakers forced 31 Randolph turnovers, which led to 34 Guilford points.

Gibbs made five of her first seven shots, including two three-pointers, and had 13 points that helped the host to a 42-22 halftime lead. She also made three steals in the game and led Guilford with four assists. Ann Seufer (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown) chipped in 13 points and Lauren LeFevers (Claremont, N.C./Bunker Hill) added 11 points off the bench. Freshman Brittany Atwater (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) celebrated her birthday with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists, all career highs.

Lindsay Cross (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro) scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Randolph. Teammate Katie Rechnitzer (Burke, Va./James W. Robinson) also scored 14 points. Megan Carney (Chesterfield, Va./Amelia Academy) contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Guilford returns to action Friday at 7:00 p.m. against league leader Randolph-Macon College.
