from the Asheboro Courier-Tribune at www.courier-tribune.com:

Southwestern Randolph High School evened its record in Mid-Piedmont Conference basketball action.

Unfortunately, that was because of a doubleheader split against Southern Guilford, highlighted by a 57-49 boys’ victory after the girls were stunned 53-48 in the opener at Jack Castelloe Gymnasium Tuesday night.

The Cougars pounced early in the fourth quarter, answering a pesky Storm rally that saw a lead that was as big as 12, cut in half. But point guard Jake Yow hit a 3-pointer with just over 5 minutes left and fellow senior guard Tate Byers scored 7 of SWR’s last 13 points to keep SG at bay.
