LB/LS Walt Sparks commits to Richmond Spiders

Ragsdale High School linebacker/long snapper Walt Sparks committed to the Richmond Spiders this past weekend.

Sparks is a hard-nosed kid and he along with Billy Stone comprised possibly of the best one-two punches at linebacker in Ragsdale football history. The two will be sorely missed on the Ragsdale squad next season and don’t be surprised to see Walt Sparks become the #1 long snapper for the Richmond Spiders in the future.

Richmond-Appalachian State and Richmond-Elon matchups have been very big in recent years and the Richmond-James Madison/Richmond-William and Mary contests make for great football games as well….

Good luck to the young Mr. Sparks and let’s hope he gets his shot right away when he heads up 85-North toward the capital city of Virginia…….

Ragsdale has another player moving on to the next level and good job as always, coach Tommy Norwood……

You know I was just thinking about my all-time favorite Richmond Spider football player yesterday, RB Barty Smith, who came out of Richmond and he went on to have a very solid career with the Green Bay Pakers…..

  1. Congratulations Walt!!! He is an outstanding young man who will make the football team and school better with his presence. Great family…I am sure they are proud, as well.

  2. As I understand, he will be their long snapper from “day 1”. Congrats to Walt and Sparks family.

  3. Way to go Walt. Well deserved and well earned. Walt is a leader on and off the field. I’ll miss watching both Walt and Billy roam the middle of the field for Ragsdale next fall. But will enjoy watching them both on the diamond this spring. Players like those two don’t come around often. Good luck at Richmond, I know he’ll do a great job there.

  4. Sparks has a very strong work ethic. He should do well in college.

New coach at Richmond, after former left for UVA?

  5. Congratulations, young man! I’m always grateful when I hear news about Guilford County student-athletes pursuing a college education.

  6. Awesome athlete that comes from a great family. Definitely have enjoyed watching him line up against the D Boys. Well done Walt and congrats! And good luck at Richmond!!
