Greensboro College women fall by two to Meredith: Wilborn nets 29 for Pride

Greensboro, NC — Hunter Johnson hit a game-winning jumper with three seconds left to give Meredith a 65-63 win over Greensboro College at Hanes Gym on Wednesday night. Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) had a game-high 29 points to lead The Pride.

Wilborn was 12-27 from the field and made three 3-pointers. Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance High) had 16 points and made four 3-pointers. Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) scored 9 and grabbed 10 rebounds for the home team.

GC is now 6-12 and 4-9. Meredith, which swept the season series, improved to 6-10, 5-6. The Angels led at halftime, 31-29.

Yet The Pride led by as many as nine points in the second half before the Avenging Angels rallied. After a Richburg jumper with 7:18 left the visitors trailed 58-52. The Pride was outscored 13-5 down the stretch for the final margin.

Megan Rahn had 16 points before fouling out for the Angels. Brittany Cornelius added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Meredith shot 52-percent (28-46) to GC’s 33-percent (26-71). GC, however, committed just 7 turnovers and forced 26 MC miscues that resulted in 31 points.

GC next plays at Ferrum on Saturday at 2 p.m.
