Quakers weaken Wasps 94-65 at Ragan-Brown Field House

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clay Henson (Glen Alpine, N.C./Freedom) scored a game-high 22 points and Tyler Sanborn (Mount Airy, N.C./Elkin) added 21 points and 10 boards in Guilford College’s 94-65 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Emory & Henry College Wednesday.

The Quakers (22-2, 13-2 ODAC), ranked fourth in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, closed out the home portion of their schedule with the win and honored the senior class of Henson, Sanborn, Rhett Bonner (Yadkinville,N.C./North Forsyth (Presbyterian)) and Matt Cooney (Hillsborough, N.C./Cedar Ridge) prior to the game. Wednesday’s win ups the Guilford seniors’ four-year record to 96-18, which works out to a .842 winning percentage, tops among North Carolina’s four-year college men’s basketball teams.

Guilford made four early three-pointers and Sanborn scored eight points to help the Quakers to a 25-6 lead 8:38 into the game. Guilford enjoyed a 54-22 lead at the break behind 14 points from Henson and 13 from Sanborn.

Bonner scored 11 points and had four assists and Josh Pittman (Archdale,N.C./Trinity) chipped in 12 points off the bench. Guilford enjoyed a 62-36 rebounding edge. In addition to Sanborn’s 10 rebounds, Martin Stephenson(Cary, N.C./Cary) added nine rebounds and Brad Monroe (Asheboro,N.C./Eastern Randolph) had eight boards, both career highs.

J.D. Dyson (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) paced the Wasps (3-21, 1-14 ODAC) with 13 points. Teammate Terrance Grigg (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) added 11 points and Joe Earle had nine points and nine rebounds.

Guilford closes the regular season Saturday (2/20) at Randolph College at 2:00 p.m.
