GC women top Shenandoah behind a big day from Nikki Wilborn

Greensboro, NC — Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) had a game-high 26 points as Greensboro College defeated Shenandoah, 67-62, on Saturday. With the win, GC secured a spot in next week’s USA South women’s basketball tournament.

Wilborn was 10-22 from the field and and had 6 steals. Meredith Kelly had 18 points and fellow freshman Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) added 16 points, amde 12-14 free thorws and grabbed 9 rebounds.

The Pride led 26-22 at thre break. GC (8-15, 6-12) led by as many as 16 points in the second half. Yet the visitors made a late rally.

SU’s Mandy Johnston made a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to cut the GC margin to 64-62. The Prid emade 3-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Kahterine Flint had 17 points to lead SU (14-10, 10-8).

Three seniors were honored prior to the game: Jordan Joyce (Collinsville, Va./Bassett), Elizabeth Mauze (Raleigh, NC/Wakefield) and Deroya Minor (Raleigh NC/Apex High). Joyce made the most of it with a GC record 6 clokcs, 10 rebounds and 4 points.
