Greensboro College men fall at USA South tourney

Newport News, VA — RJ Smith (Charleston, SC/Porter Gaud School) tallied a team-high 16 points in Greensboro College’s 73-60 season-ending loss at Christopher Newport on Tuesday night. GC ends the year 11-15. CNU advances with a 13-12 record.

Smith nailed a three-pointer at the end of the first half that cut the deficit to 34-31. He made a trey to tie the game at 34 to begin the second half. Walter Brady then made two free throws to put The Pride ahead 36-34 with 18:26 left.

It went downhill from there for the visitors. CNU went on a 16-0 run and led 50-36 after a Theo Baker bucket with 11:56 remaining. The Pride got no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Adam Powell (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach High) scored 14 and Luqman Tijani (Greensboro, NC/Page High School) added 10 for The Pride. GC’s Walter Brady (St. Petersburg, Fla./Gibbs) had 14 rebounds.

Conley Taylor netted 21 points and Mark Blasingame grabbed 15 boards for CNU.
