More tools for March Madness – March 09, 2010
Now that March Madness is upon us, I wanted to update a couple of tools to help people fill out their brackets.

First up, I’ve revamped the Team Stats page. Now you can view the complete team rankings for any stat StatSheet covers. You can look at both national and conference rankings, look at Offense vs Defense, filter on All Games or just Conference Games, and restrict the results to a particular conference. And you can do this over any of the last 14 seasons. I’m also thinking about adding a “Date” option so you can compare the rankings at a particular point in time during the season to now. Would you be interested in that?

Another tool, which I don’t think many people know about yet is the Advanced Team Search. With it you can find out all sorts of quirky facts such as:

    1. There are only 4 teams that average more than 40 rebounds a game and more than 80 points per game. See the results
    2. There is only 1 team that has a better record against the RPI 1-50 than they do against the RPI 51-100. See the results
    3. There are 3 Top 25 teams that have an RPI and SOS greater than 25 (are they overrated?). See the results
    4. Which conference is the toughest? There are 10 teams that are 7th place or lower their conference but have an RPI less than 75. See the results

I could go on and on. It’s actually kind of fun. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
