GC baseball tops Maryville and wins third straight game

Greensboro, NC — Michael Parker (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance) went 2-4 with a home run and three Pride pitchers combined for shutout as Greensboro College defeated Maryville, 2-0, at War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.

The win was the third straight for GC (7-13). The Scots dropped to 13-5.

GC got the all the offense it needed in its first at-bat when Tyler O’Neill (Columbia, Md/Oakland Mills) (2-4, run, RBI) singled home Matt Irwin (Asburn, VA/Stone Bridge). Irwin (2-4, run) led off with a hit.

Parker led off the sixth inning with a blast to right field for the game’s final tally.

Greensboro got another strong performance from freshman hurler Taylor MacDonald (Pinebluff, NC/Pinecrest High School), who improved to 3-1. He started, threw seven innings, scattered five hits, struck out five and walked none.

Pride reliever Trevor Marbry (Chapell Hill, NC/Chapel Hill ) got the save. He entered the game in the eight inning with bases loaded and got a strikeout and a fly out to end a Scot threat. He then finished the game on the hill for GC in the ninth.

Maryville’s Mark Morales took the loss despite striking out 10 batters.

The Pride plays Rhodes at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The game is at Guilford’s McBane Field.
