Ragsdale still rolling after win over NWG: SEG to visit RHS on Tuesday

Ragsdale Tigers now 6-0/4-0 in the Piedmont Triad Conference after win tonight over NWG

Ragsdale jumped on top in the first inning. With DeSean Anderson on board with a walk and Mike Whited on base on an error, Walt Sparks took a 2 – 1 pitch over the left center field fence to give the Tigers a 3 – 0 lead.

Northwest got two of the runs back in the bottom of the 1st as Nathan Becker and Ben Schmucker had back to back singles. Keaton Haack drove Becker in with the first run with a double and Schmucker scored on a Jordan Browning groundout.

Ragsdale put three more on the board in the top of the second. Mike Whited singled and scored on a Walt Sparks double. Ben Fultz followed with his fifth home run of the season over the center field fence to drive in two more runs and give Ragsdale a 6 – 2 lead.

The Vikings scored twice in the third, using a Becker walk, a Schmucker single and a Ragsdale error to put runners on second and third. Haack drove in Becker on a grounder to short and Schmucker scored on a wild pitch to make the score 6 – 4 Ragsdale.

Both teams scored a single run in the fourth. Desean Anderson walked, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Mike Whited drove him home with a single into left field. Northwest’s run came without a hit as Ben Saunders got on on an error, got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Josh Voss sacrifice fly.

Walt Sparks started on the mound for the Tigers and worked 2 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and struck out 3 batters. Zach Hodges picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of relief allowing 1 unearned run, 1 hit and striking out 5. Tyler Southcott came on to pitch a perfect seventh inning to pick up his 2nd save of the season. Soutchott threw 11 pitches, 10 of which were strikes to retire the side in order.

Garrett Stell pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Vikings and suffered the defeat. He allowed 7 runs on 6 hits. Keaton Haack worked the last 3 2/3 giving up no runs on 1 hit and recording 4 strike outs.

Walt Sparks had a big night at the plate for Ragsdale with a HR, 2B and a single with 4 RBI’s and he scored 2 runs. Ben Fultz also had a HR and 2 RBI’s while Mike Whited was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Ben Schmucker was 2 for 4 for the Vikings and Keaton Haack was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.

Ragsdale is now 6 – 0 and 4 – 0 in the Piedmont Triad while Northwest falls to 1 – 3 in the Conference.
