Heels versus UAB tonight in the NIT: Will Graves saw old friend/foe on Saturday

The North Carolina Tar Heels take on UAB tonight in the NIT, but in Saturday’s game, Will Graves out of Dudley HS came up big again for the Heels and did you know this:

Graves faced Dee Bost(Concord HS) in the 2006 NCHSAA 3-A Boys Championship game in Chapel Hill, a game which the Panthers won and Graves met Bost again Saturday when UNC topped Mississippi State, 76-74, in round two of the NIT….Bost had 14 points to help pace the Bulldogs and William had 17 to lead the Heels on Saturday…..

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Will Graves(Dudley HS) made a contested 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to give North Carolina a 76-74 win over Mississippi State on Saturday in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Graves(Dudley HS) put the Tar Heels up 74-72 with his fourth 3-pointer of the game. Barry Stewart tied it for the Bulldogs (24-12) on two free throws, but Larry Drew II answered with a layup on the other end to seal the victory.

North Carolina (18-16) will face UAB on Tuesday, with a trip to New York and the semifinals on the line.

Heels Tonight:
North Carolina will travel to Birmingham as the fourth seed to take on second-seeded UAB in the NIT quarterfinals. Carolina, 11-4 in the NIT, is 2-1 in the Tournament’s quarterfinal round. Carolina is 1-0 in its only meeting with UAB but went 1-1 against Mike Davis during his tenure at Indiana, losing in the fall of 2001 but winning in Bloomington in the fall of 2004.

  1. Are you sure Graves was at the game last night? didnt see anything in the box score except a big zero.

  2. Jim was right. Will Graves saw zero(0) points on Tuesday night in the UAB game…

Something like 0-5 from the field and possibly 0-4 from the line…..
