  1. GEORGE CARTER PITCHED 5 INNINGS AND STRUCK OUT 15 BATTERS, HE DID THAT BECAUSE 2 BATTERS REACHED ON STRIKEOUTS. GEORGE CARTER HAS PITCHED 11 INNINGS WHICH IS 33 OUTS AND HAS STRUCK OUT 31 BATTERS. THAT IS IMPRESSIVE! AND PEOPLE AROUND GUILFORD COUNTY SAY HE IS OVERRATED, I DOUBT IT, HE IS A BALL PLAYER AND A FIRST CLASS KID. GOOD LUCK TO YOU GEORGE

  2. Been around Guilford Co. baseball a long time and I’ve never heard anyone call George Carter overrated…ever.

He gets more ink and gets talked up more than any other kid in the county and it’s all positive all the time, from opponents and everybody else.

At the same time, there are some underrated kids in Guilford Co. Neither is George one of those. He gets the credit he has worked for and deserves…some don’t.

Your point just doesn’t have any substance to it.

  3. This kid is good, not at all overrated. Im just wondering what hes going to do at UNC (pitch or play first and hit) if he makes it to chapel hill. He will get drafted for sure.

  4. gozzle,
you haven’t followed greensboro sports very closely the past couple of years. there has been at least as much negative about carter as positive. go to the archives of gboro sports the last two years….a case of not getting credit,15 Ks in five innings and no mention other than wp

who doesn’t get credit that should? let’s help them out.

  5. George played for me when I coached a 10u GBC team several years ago. He was a special left handed pitcher and power hitter back then also. It is great to see him doing well and getting the recognition he deserves. He is fine young man and has a great family that has raised him well.
There are several kids from that team like Tiger Miller, Nick Taylor, Kelly Patram, Hanna Jackson, Corey McKinney, Dylan Shutt and Curtis Linthicum who are playing great baseball and softball. Glad to see these players doing well and wish them all the best.

  6. pledge, there are people who think Albert Pujols is overrated. But most of them are Cubs fans and you can’t take them seriously. Same here.

Everybody knows George is good and he does get a whole lot of credit for it. Who else gets referred to in print as “the Man”? Being high profile, he’s also going to get pot shots taken at him. It’s part of the package.

Couple of examples of underpub’ed kids since you asked…Josh Tobias at SEG who will play at Florida and the four D-1 kids at WG about whom very little is is ever written or said.

By the way, is there any truth to the talk about SCar getting in on George?

  7. We have been covering Josh Tobias since he was in the 8th grade at SEG Middle School and we broke the news on him going to Florida….

We have covered WG’s Joe Turkson, Macon Smith and Casey Jones over the past 2-3 years and I’m not sure who the 4th WG player would be, but it might be Marrero and we have covered him too….

Ask around, we are all over town and we are all over this local HS Baseball scene…

We will miss a few things/items, but we are looking for them and hope to catch up to them all sometime….

  8. Wasn’t referencing you or your site Andy, just having an exchange of perspective with NORTHERN and pledge trying to get across two things:

    (1) point out that the “people around Guilford County” that may be calling George overrated are probably fans of other programs who can’t bring themselves to compliment an opponent no matter how well he plays, and

    (2) that there are some accomplished players in town whose programs don’t have a lot of buzz around them and, as a result, are underrated.

Going mainly on what I’ve seen in summer play, I think Josh is underrated locally and since there’s little buzz around WG’s program (for example, I think they were left out of the New-Record’s 2010 season preview althogther after winning back to back regular seasons at 3-A) all four of their D-1 kids are better players than is commonly acknowledged.

Note: Marrero is the 4th WG prospect; several knowledgeable (and objective) folks think he’s the most naturally talented player in the Triad area; I believe he intends to play at UNC-G.

  9. Well covered on your part and Josh has played with group out of Virginia that traveled to East Cobb, Georgia last summer and before that and maybe part of last summer too, he was in the Senior Legion program with the Eastern Randolph crew that Grady Lawson heads up……

Josh was an All-Star in Senior Legion after his freshman year at SEG….

The Western kids will do well and if Marrero is heading to UNCG he will be joining Ray Crawford Jr.(Dudley) in the Spartan program along with Warren Slack(SWG), Blake Hassebrock(SWG) and Cody Walker(Grimsley)….Not sure about what year Slack and Hassebrock are in, but I’m pretty sure that Walker is a junior….

Let’s keep these kids in the forefront as much as possible and it is NWG at WG today with many of the notable locals on the field….McKinney, Kuxhausen, Smucker, Saunders, Everette, Haack and others for NWG and Turkson, Smith, Jones, Marrero, Leake, Nusdeo and others for WG……

Grimsley hosting Ragsdale today and how hard will the TIgers come out after the loss last night to SEG and will SEG be able to stay on top of their game as they get set to face Providence Grove today, knowing that they have Dudley coming up with the Panthers looking for a possible piece of first place on Friday?????

  10. Unfortunately, Sanders Kuxhausen is done for this season with a thumb injury; hurt making an effort play that typifies the way he approaches the game. Fun kid to watch play. A junior, will be back next season.

  11. to gozzlehead4413: Thank you for kind comments regarding Sanders! I am still in shock he is in a cast, but as the doc was putting on his cast he leaned over and said, “You know mom, everything happens for a reason.” So that’s what we are believing!
