N.C. State chancellor Woodson says, we want our man/woman in place “by the middle of summer”

from www.wralsportsfan.com:

North Carolina State chancellor Randy Woodson said he wants to hire a new athletics director “by the middle of summer.”

Woodson and the thirteen members of the school’s search committee held their first meeting Monday to find a replacement for former A.D. Lee Fowler.

Woodson also announced the school has hired Parker Executive Search, an Atlanta-based firm, to aid the committee. The firm’s president, Daniel Parker, was also in attendance Monday morning.

“Parker has done the most A.D. searches in the country,” said Woodson. “They know athletic directors from around the country.”

According to the website for Parker Executive Search, the firm has helped seven universities find athletics directors in the past year. A university spokesman said NCSU will pay Parker $75,000.

“It will be a nationwide search,” added David Horning, N.C. State associate athletics director and member of the search committee. “There will be advertisements going out as soon as tomorrow.”

As for internal candidates, Wolfpack Club executive director Bobby Purcell has lobbied for the job, though he has never held an athletics director position.

Woodson and Parker agree that prior service as an A.D. is not a requirement but is preferred.

“Having experience in leading an athletic organization is hard to replicate,” added Woodson.
