Kernersville Post 36 Legion team wins Southeast Regional, now headed to World Series in Spokane, Washington

Pete Schultz(East Forsyth) pitched seven strong innings to lead the Kernersville Post 36 American Legion team to a 10-2 win over host Columbia, Tenn., last night in the championship of the Southeast Regional, clinching a berth in the American Legion World Series.

Schultz gave up one unearned run for Kernersville Post 36, shutting down a Columbia team which had beaten Kernersville 12-1 on Sunday in the double-elimination tournament. Schultz, a mainstay on the East Forsyth team which was the NCHSAA Class 4-A runner-up in June, gave up seven hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Alex Swim(Northwest Guilford/Elon) and Brandon Harrison, the first two hitters in Kernersville’s lineup, provided the big spark on offense. Swim went 3 for 6, with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. Harrison went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and hit a two-run homer in the first to open the scoring.

Evan Orenstein(East Forsyth), Nathan Becker(Northwest Guilford), Andrew Smith and Kevin Parrish added two hits apiece for Kernersville, which will open World Series play on Friday in Spokane, Wash.
