Page is coming off a 22-0-1, 4A state championship/Metro 4A conference winning season last year. The Pirates finished ranked 1st in the state and 3rd nationally per ESPN RISE’s FAB 50 poll. Leading that team last year were current UNC-Chapel Hill midfielders Glen Long and Rob Lovejoy, as well at goalkeeper Tom Jackson.
This year the Pirates have already started off strong with two very impressive wins against Northwest Guilford and Wesleyan Christian Academy, who is 9th in the Preseason NCSCA Private state rankings.
Northwest Guilford was defeated 3-0, as Page showed great ball movement and superb finishing. Page topped Wesleyan 1-0, with classy defensive work.
According to NCSCA EuroSport, Page is ranked #1 in the state. On ESPN RISE, Page is Preseason ranked #6 in the nation. Tidbit from the FAB 50 ESPN RISE Fall 2010 rankings:
Led by Virginia commit Matt Mills and a slew of players from the Greensboro Youth Soccer Academy club, defending state champion Page could be in position to make it two in a row.
The Pirates look to win back-to-back 4A state titles this year.
Grimsley is ranked 11th in the state this year so far and SW Guilford is unranked but receiving votes.
