Guilford Men, UNCG Women Win Guilford Cross Country Carnival
*GREENSBORO, N.C.(9-4-10) –* UNCG’s Michelle Chewens captured the Guilford
College Cross Country Carnival women’s race and helped the Spartans win the
team title Saturday. Guilford’s *Derick Kosgei* won the men’s race, and
helped the host Quakers edge UNCG for the men’s team championship.
Chewens completed the five-kilometer course in 19:59, just seven seconds in
front of teammate Jade Farlo in the 47-runner field. Coker’s Kendyl
Seawright followed in third place at 20:26 and helped the Cobras to a
second-place finish. Guilford *Taylor Stokes* (20:29) and UNCG’s Jenna Paley
(20:39) rounded out the top five. Mountain State, which placed three runners
in the top 15, finished third in the eight-team field.
Kosgei (15:51) held off UNCG’s Kenny Hinman by five seconds to capture the
six-kilometer men’s race, which featured 56 runners. Both Guilford and UNCG
placed five runners among the top-10 finishers with Kosgei’s first-place
finish the difference in the Quakers one-point team victory.
Guilford hosts the N.C. Collegiate Championship Oct. 16 on The Meadows
Course.
Southern Alamance High School won both the the five-kilometer boys and girls
races. Brandon Cain took the individual title in a time of 16:44, while
teammate Kristin Cain won the girls title with a time of 21:09.
