Greensboro College splits volleyball matches on Sunday now (11-4)

Newport News, VA. — The Greensboro College volleyball team split its matches on Sunday. The Pride defeated Ferrum, 3-0, and then had its 5-match winning streak stopped by host CNU, 3-0.

CNU 3, GC 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15)
Danielle Simpson (Mayodan, NC/McMichael) had 19 digs and fellow freshman Dana Sandknop (Summerfield, NC/Northwest Guilford) dished 19 assists, but the 11th ranked Captains swept The Pride. Jessie Heavenrich passed 32 assists for CNU. The Captains (11-1, 4-0) have not lost a set in the last 10 matches. GC is now 11-4, 4-1.

GC 3, Ferrum 0 (25-16, 25-7, 25-16)
In GC’s early contest, Brittany Hunsucker (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale) notched a match-high 14 kills to lead The Pride over the Panthers. Sha McDuffie (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland) and Karen Riffanacht (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) both added 11 kills for GC. McDuffie hit a team-high .435; Simpson recorded 18 digs; and Sandknop dished 23 assists. The Pride won its fifth straight match and improved to 11-3 and 4-0 in the USA South. Leah Quinones had 10 digs for Ferrum (0-9, 0-4).

The Pride hosts Peace College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
