Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ) and Brock Elder (Greensboro, NC/Vandalia Christian) have been named Greensboro College’s student athletes of the month. Seniors on the field, they are no stranger to the award, having both received it last year as well.
Elder, and the GC golf team, certainly got off to a fine start this year. The Pride sits atop the NCAA Division III rankings, according to Golfworld. Additionally, Elder is the top-rated individual (by Golfstat) in the division. Greensboro won the Golfweek D3 Invitational to begin the year. GC’s 858 (282-288-288) was 10 strokes better than second-place Huntingdon. Most of the nation’s top DIII teams were in the field at the tournament. Elder finished with a minus-seven, 209 tally, at Golfweek. Among all divisions (NCAA I, II and III), Elder is rated 36th in the nation.
Allegro is a big reason why the Greensboro College women’s soccer team is ranked regionally, and ended September with a 6-2 record. Entering October, the senior goalkeeper had five shutouts, a 0.50 goals against average, and a .925 save percentage. “Katie has really picked up her level of play in her senior season,” GC Head Coach Ian Spooner said . “If she and the team continue to play like we did in September, I like our chances against anyone in the conference.”
