Danville, VA. — The Greensboro College football team opened USA South play with a 50-0 defeat at Averett on Saturday. James Wilson ran for 4 touchdowns, and 155 yards on 22 carries for AU.
The Cougars improved to 3-1, 1-0. GC dropped its third straight contest and is now 1-3, 1-0.
Allen Stallings (Manteo, NC/Manteo) and Cody McCray (Greensboro, NC /Ragsdale) both had 9 tackles for GC. Freshman quarterback Daniel Kall started for The Pride in the second half. He passed 7-14 for 65 yards.
Wilson’s big day helped the Cougars jump on Greensboro early. Averett’s opening drive ended with a 4-yard score by Wilson. He later added a 1-yard touchdown run on the Cougars’ next possession.
With Averett’s defense continuing to shut The Pride offense down, the Cougars kept attacking on offense. Freshman quarterback Kirkland Brown, found senior wide receiver Jeremy Dixon for a 9-yard touchdown in the right corner of the end zone at the start of the second quarter, to help put Averett ahead 21-0.
Dixon, who added a 37-yard touchdown catch from senior quarterback Cody Ladutko before halftime, finished with five catches for a team-high 112 yards.
The Pride travels to N.C. Wesleyan next Saturday.
