GUILFORD LANDS TOP SPOTS IN LATEST GOLFSTAT.COM RATINGS
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team regained the top spot
in the weekly Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Ratings Wednesday.
Quakers’ sophomore Noah Ratner (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) is ranked first
in the Oct. 13 Division III Head-to-Head Player Standings.
The Quakers are coming off their second tournament win in as many weeks,
which helped them regain the top position they first held Sept. 28. Guilford
won the prestigious Greensboro Gordin Classic Invitational Oct. 11 by five
strokes over Huntingdon College, which stands second in this week’s ratings.
The 18-team tournament included eight teams ranked among Golfstat’s top-10
schools, including Greensboro College, which was ranked first at the time.
Guilford shot 292-299-591 for its fourth Gordin Classic crown in the event’s
20-year history.
Ratner, who placed third in the 90-man Greensboro Gordin Classic
Invitational field, has been a key contributor to the Quakers’ early season
success. He owns Guilford’s lowest stroke average (71.86) and has a 1394-3
record according to the Golftstat.com standings, which are based on a
round-robin, head-to-head comparison of all Division III players. Ties are
broken by head-to-head results between tied students. Ratner has a 12th-place
finish and two third-place efforts through his first three tournaments this
year.
Ratner and the rest of first-year coach Corey Maggard’s Quakers put their
top rankings on the line Oct. 18-19 at the Davidson College Invitational the
River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.
