GUILFORD’S RATNER LANDS WEEKLY GOLF HONORS
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Noah Ratner (Asheville,
N.C./Asheville) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Golfer
of the Week Award Monday. The sophomore also collected Guilford’s
Student-Athlete of the Week prize, which is presented by the school’s
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He is Guilford’s second recipient
of the ODAC’s weekly golf prize this fall and has twice won the award in his
career.
Ratner, ranked first in Golfstat.com’s Oct. 13 NCAA Division III
Head-to-Head Player Standings, placed third among 90 golfers in the
prestigious Greensboro Gordin Classic Invitational Oct. 10-11. He shot the
low round of his career (68) on the way to an even-par 68-76-144 that helped
Guilford take first in the 18-team field. Ratner owns Guilford’s lowest
stroke average (71.86) and has a 1394-3 record according to the Golfstat.com
standings, which are based on a round-robin, head-to-head comparison of all
Division III students. Ties are broken by head-to-head results between tied
students. Ratner has a 12th-place finish and two third-place efforts through
his first three tournaments this year.
First-year coach Corey Maggard’s Quakers are rated first in the Oct. 13
Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Standings. Ratner and his mates put
their top rankings on the line Oct. 18-19 at the Davidson College
Invitational at the River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which
is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams.
The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and
seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and
non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include cancer
awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the
North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at area schools.
