Guilford-Greensboro College basketball reports from Dave Walters, the Quakers’ SID(Chevena Pickard/Page HS with Greensboro College women)

Men’s game:

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Damian Dixon’s three-pointer with 18.5 seconds left in
overtime lifted Greensboro College to a 76-73 basketball win over Guilford
College Monday night in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Dixon scored eight of his game-high 22 points in overtime, including two of
his four three-pointers. He also grabbed a key rebound in the waning
seconds, drew a foul and iced the win with two free throws with eight
seconds left in overtime.

Guilford, ranked 19th in the preseason D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, forced extra
time on Josh Pittman’s (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) NBA-range three-pointer with
one second left in regulation. The Quakers used the momentum gained from the
shot to take a 70-65 lead in overtime with 2:09 remaining, but Dixon drained
a three to pull the Pride back to within 70-68 with 1:40 left. T.J. Holman’s
steal and layup 40 seconds later tied the score at 70-70.

The tightly played contest featured 13 ties and 11 lead changes. While the
Pride shot just over 37 percent from the field for the game, it made all
four overtime field goals, including three three-pointers. Greensboro scored
25 points from 22 Quakers’ turnovers, while Guilford scored 19 points from
21 Greensboro miscues.

Daren Dexter contributed 17 points, nine boards and three steals for
Greensboro. Holman finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Guilford junior Tobi Akinsola enjoyed a career night with 24 points and 14
rebounds, both game-and personal-best figures. He tallied 13 second-half
points, including two free throws with 12:14 left in regulation that gave
Guilford a 43-35 lead, the game’s largest margin.

Pittman finished with 17 points and teammate Justin Stafford (Winston-Salem,
N.C./Calvary Baptist) contributed a career-high 12 points off the bench.
