Greensboro College grabs road win behind Lewis Owenby and Daren Dextor

Arlington, Va. — Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen) and Daren Dexter (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) had 17 points as Greensboro College defeated Marymount, 72-70, on Friday night. The Pride rallied from a 17 point second half deficit en route to the win. GC improved to 2-1 and Marymount fell to 0-2.

Dexter had a game-high 10 rebounds and Owenby made 7-11 field goals.

The Pride was behind 44-30 at the half and trailed 56-39 with 14:1 left in the contest. GC then went on 22-5 run over the next seven minutes. Luqman Tijani (Greensboro, NC/Page ) made a bucket with 7:19 left that tied the score at 61. Tijani added 16 points for Greensboro.

Damian Dixon (Tampa, FL/Wharton) then made two free throws and The Pride never trailed again.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” said GC Head Coach Bryan Galuski. “They showed a tremendous amount of heart and determination to come back like that. With such a young team, that should go a long way for this team.”

GC forced 20 turnovers with 15 in the second half.

Reed Scott had 17 points and nine boards for the Saints.

The Pride faces Capital (Ohio) on Saturday in the Marymount Tournament
