from www.uncgspartans.com:

• UNCG returns home on Monday to face cross-city foe North Carolina A&T. The Spartans and Aggies have not met on the men’s hardwood in nearly a decade. The Aggies hold a 7-6 advantage all-time, but UNCG won the last two meetings, including the last one on Jan. 16, 2002, 85-67. All-time, 10 of the 13 meetings have been played at the Coliseum – which was then considered a neutral floor. UNCG has won six of the 10 meetings at the Coliseum.

• UNCG is winless in its four outings, facing three very tough opponents. VCU (4-1) and Virginia Tech (4-1) and Florida State (5-0) are combined 18-4 thus far this season with two of the losses in the group being Virginia Tech’s loss at fourth-ranked Kansas State and VCU’s near-miss against No. 24 Tennessee.

• Against East Carolina, the Spartans had cut the deficit to 10 midway through the second half before East Carolina scored 20 of the next 26 points to turn it into a rout.

• The Spartans have had a considerably new look over the last two seasons. In fact, just one person in uniform today was in uniform in the 2008-09 opener at Charlotte – Elhanan Bone. Brandon Evans was sitting out after transferring from East Carolina and Darrius Sellers was injured. From then to tonight, there are 15 new players on the UNCG roster, five that made their debut at VCU and three more that made their debut against Florida St.

• The Spartans were picked anywhere from third through sixth this season in the preseason poll. The Southern Conference’s coaches poll had UNCG fourth in an always tight North Division race.

• UNCG returns just one starter from last season, that being point guard Kyle Randall. In all, the Spartans returns 28.5 points per game from last season (averaged 63.4 as a team).
