Grabbing some lunch

Ran into Richard Hayes, the left-handed quarterback from Dudley High School, while at lunch today and the lefty has a broken left arm, that he broke while playing basketball for Coach Derrick Partee and the Dudley JV’s….

Richard was wearing a Warriors sweat top and he said that was from his AAU basketball team, out of Columbia, South Carolina…..His uncle Bill Hayes, is the Athletic Director at Winston-Salem State University and his dad, Richard, is on the football coaching staff at WSSU….

Hayes said the old left-hander will be ready again soon and Coach Steven Davis needn’t worry, Richard Hayes has his plays and he will be ready to take snaps again in the spring……

I also met Mr. Basden at the Bojangles today and his granddaughter is a full scholarship track athlete at the University of South Carolina in Columbia…..She is a Western Guilford-graduate and this young lady is about one full-year ahead in her studies at USC and as a junior eligibility-wise, she could graduate, if she chooses this spring and she is already working on her graduate school courses….

Her name is Radiance Basden and here is her bio from the South Carolina Gamecock site:

Radiance Basden Jr./Jr. Jumps/Hurdles Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford

Mr. Basden is very proud of his granddaughter and he has every right to be, she is an outstanding student-athlete in jumps and in the hurdles….200 meters, long jump, triple jump…..Radiance is some kind of track athlete…….And with a 4.6 GPA, she is OK in the books too……

You can meet some of the elite, while you eat…..Grabbing some lunch……..
