Guilford Rallies to Upset #9 Randolph-Macon, 62-61

*Greensboro, N.C. (1/29/11) –* *Josh Pittman* scored 25 of his game-high 30
points in the second half as Guilford College rallied to upset #9
Randolph-Macon College Saturday. His assist on a *Gabriel Lowder* layup
with15 seconds remaining put the Quakers (12-7, 7-4 Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC)) up for good and dealt the Yellow Jackets only their
second ODAC loss of the season.

Randolph-Macon (17-3, 10-2 ODAC) entered the game ranked ninth in this
week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, and tied atop the league standings, turned
an early five-point deficit into an 11-point lead behind Lamar Giggentts’ 10
first-half points. Guilford slowed the rally behind back-to-back lay-ups by
*Tobi Akinsol *and *Brad Monroe* in the final two minutes of the half to
trail 27-20 at halftime.

With the Quakers stymied by the Yellow Jackets dominant inside presence,
Pittman found his rhythm from outside in the second half hitting on nine of
10 shots including a perfect five-of-five from behind the 3-point arc. His
timely shooting along with a stingy second-half defense kept the game tight
for the final 15 minutes of the contest. The game featured nine ties and 11
lead changes. The Yellow Jackets’ Adam Desgain shot from the corner at the
buzzer the hit the rim and bounced out to be corralled by Guilford’s
Atkinsola.

Brandon Braxton led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and five rebounds.
Desgain and Giggetts chipped in 10 points off the bench for Randolph-Macon.

Atkinsola 10 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, while Lowder contributed 11
points and three rebounds for Guilford.
