Greensboro College men stage comeback on Cougars Monday night to win in Danville

Danville, Va. — Freshman Damian Dixon (Tampa, FL/Wharton) scored a career high 25 points as Greensboro College won at Averett, 77-69, on Monday night. Dixon added six rebounds, six steals and made 9-11 free throws. The Pride improved to 10-8 and 4-3 in the USA South.

The visitors, however, needed a late comeback to secure the win. GC trailed 63-56 with 5:51 remaining. Yet Greensboro went on a 7-0 run to tied the game at 63 with 3:45 left. Averett was outscored
14-6 the rest of the contest.

“We had great defense and better execution down the stretch,” said GC Head Coach Bryan Galuski. “We found a way to win on the road. I am proud of our togetherness and effort to finish out the game.”

Daren Dexter (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) added 14 points and eight rebounds for The Pride.

GC converted 30-38 free throws (79-percent) and shot 45-percent (22-49) from the field. The Cougars shot 25-61 for 41-percent.

Justin Pierce paced Averett (2-19, 0-8) with 22 points. AU was ahead 37-34 at halftime.

The Pride hosts Emory & Henry on Wednesday night.
