EMU sweeps Greensboro College baseball on Opening Day at War Memorial Stadium

Greensboro, N.C. — Visiting Eastern Mennonite swept Greensboro College by scores of 11-3 and 5-3 on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. EMU improved to 2-2 and The Pride is 0-2.

In the nightcap, the Royals broke open a 3-3 game with two runs in the top of the sixth. At the plate, GC was led by its led off and number two hitters: Matt Irwin (Asburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and Bobby Amato (Cooper City, FL/Pembroke Pines ). They both had two hits and one run scored. Jacob Cadle (Denton, NC/Westchester Country Day School) took the defeat for The Pride. He threw five innings, struck out five, allowed just two hits, but walked six.

In game one, EMU knocked 10 hits and plated seven runs in the sixth inning en route to the 11-3 win. Logan Beasley (Liberty, NC/Eastern Randolph High School) had a double and two RBI for GC. Starter John Atkins (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek High School) took the loss. Greensboro collected just three hits.

GC hosts Washington & Lee for a 2×7 doubleheader on Sunday(TODAY). First pitch is 3 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.

  1. Looks like another long season in Pride country if you lose to EMU who traditionally wins less then 10 games a year…….
