1st Round of Piedmont Triad Conference Tournament

Girls:

East Forsyth 7 5 10 11 – 33

Ragsdale 23 10 8 10 – 51

Ragsdale got off to a fast start, taking a 23 – 7 first quarter lead and
expanding it to a 21 point halftime lead before closing out the Eagles by a
51 – 33 score. Ragsdale score 10 points in the last 45 seconds of the first
quarter to break open the game. Mikayla Pettyjohn hit two free throws, then
15 seconds later was fouled as she made a layup. When she missed the free
throw, Ciara Jackson got the rebound and scored. At the 7 second mark, it
was déjà vu as the same thing happened. When the dust settled, Ragsdale had
gone from a 13 – 7 lead to a 23 – 7 lead and the rout was on.

Jackson led all scorers with 24 points with 18 of them coming in the first
half. Ally Darnell hit three three pointers as part of her 13 points and
Pettyjohn ended up with 10. The win sets up a matchup with No. 1 seed
Southwest Guilford on Thursday night at Northwest Guilford.

Kristen Hicks scored 10 points for East Forsyth as the Eagles wrap up their
season.

Boys:

East Forsyth 11 19 8 17 – 55

Ragsdale 14 20 17 19 – 70

Ragsdale fell behind 8 – 4 early in the first, then battled back to take a
14 – 11 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers widened the lead to 12
points with just over a minute left in the first half at 34 – 22, then saw
East close out the half on a 8 – 0 run to go into the locker room trailing
by only four at 34 – 30.

The momentum the Eagles had gotten at the end of the half went away quickly
in the third as Ragsdale opened the quarter on a 13 – 3 run to go back up by
14 and they continued with a double digit margin for the rest of the game.
Ragsdale sophomore Sharwynn McGee was a force in the middle scoring 17 first
half points and ending the night with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tyquan
Roberts and Benaiah Wise each had 13 points and Jaxon Randolph chipped in
with 12. Roberts also pulled down 10 boards.

Chrishon Gwyn led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points.

The number 2 seed Tigers will now face off against number 3 seed Parkland
who defeated High Point Central tonight by a 70 – 62 score. The semi-final
matchup will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday night at Northwest Guilford.
