Greensboro College baseball has won three games in a-row: Pride sweep DH at WMS on Sunday, Amato connects for Grand Slam

Greensboro, N.C. — Greensboro College swept Kenyon College 6-5 and 12-1 in a doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium on Sunday.

In game one, Bobby Amato (Cooper City, FL/Pembroke Pines ) hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth inning, Everette Blalock (Mebane, NC/Eastern-Alamance) stole home for the winning run in the 6-5 win.

Both teams got on the board with a first and third double-steal. For GC’s tally, Austin Catherina (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley CHS) scored after singling. Catherina was 2-4 at the plate. Fellow freshman Jack Bishop (Waynesville, NC/Tuscola) also got two hits. J.R. Pike (Graham, NC/Graham), the last of five Pride pitchers, got the win.

Freshman Tyler Beeby (Sacramento, CA/Center) hurled a complete game and got the win in the nightcap. He scattered five hits and struck out three Lord hitters.

At the plate, Amato continued his torrid hitting. He went 3-3 with three runs scored. Michael Manfro (Fauquier, VA/Notre Dame Academy) and Blalock both had two base hits. Grant Kelley (Newport, NC/West Carteret High School) knocked a three-run homer for The Pride.

GC, which won its third straight game, is now 3-7. KC dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Greensboro hosts Emory & Henry on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
