Greensboro College women defeat St. Vincent in Round One NCAA action

Huntingdon, Pa. — Greensboro College will advance in the NCAA basketball tournament after defeating St. Vincent College 83-66 in the first round.

Danielle Duncan (Greensboro, NC/Ragsdale), and Andrienne Terrell (Omaha, NE/Decatur) both notched 20 points for The Pride.

The Pride improved to 27-2 and St. Vincent dropped to 24-5.

Terrell’s point total was a season best. She was 7-8 from the field, made all four 3-pointers and dished seven assists. Duncan was 12-14 from the free throw line and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Freshman Chevena Pickard (Greensboro, NC/Page) contributed 17 points and Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) added 12.

“We had one of our better shooting nights and played really well in the first half,” said Pride Head Coach Randy Tuggle. “If we play on Saturday like we did tonight, I like our chances.”

GC will play Saturday at 7 pm against host Juniata.

The Pride shot a season-best 55-percent (27-49) from the field in the game and was 10-17 from beyond the arc (also a season-high). The Pride led in rebounds, 31-27.

GC led 42-25 at halftime. Maria Baroffio made a 3-pointer with 6:31 left to cut the GC lead to 66-58, but got no closer.

Brittany Sedlock scored 17 points to pace St. Vincent.

The Pride has reached the second round of the NCAA championships three previous times, but Greensboro has yet to advance to the Sweet 16.
