HS Baseball Tonight: SEG pulls out win over SWG in the bottom of the 7th…

JV’S at SWG:
SEG 8
SWG 1

Southeast Guilford 5
Southwest Guilford 4

WP:Austin Bain
LP:Kyle Miller
SEG(7-2)/SWG(6-2)

Josh Tobias scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning for SEG on a bases-loaded SAC Fly game-winning RBI to right field by SEG Falcon catcher Colby Keene….

Bottom of 7th Tobias led things off and he got hit by a pitch, a curveball down near his foot which may have been about the same thing as intentionally walking Josh, then DJ Flinchum had a nice bunt to move Josh to second and on the throw, Flinchum was safe at first base….Two men on and Blake Butler up next for SEG and then Tobias stole third base, which gave him four stolen bases on the night….With Tobias now at third, SWG put the Falcons’ Blake Butler on to load up the bases with no outs, and then that paved the way for Colby Keene’s fly ball to right that brought in Tobias with the game-winning run….

Pitcher Dallas Newton got the start for SEG and he left the game after five innings of work, with his Falcons clinging to a 4-3 lead…SWG got right down to business and tied the game up at 4-4 and that lead to the game-ending drama in the bottom of the seventh…..

Matt Dale got the call for SWG and the Cowboys went to the bullpen early and Kyle Miller did a very good job for Southwest in relief, even though he took the loss….Matt “Doc” Dale gave way to the little lefty Miller and Kyle kept the Cowboys in the game, almost the entire way…..For SEG, Bain was feeling the pain and the rain, but he saw his team had much to gain, from the victory and he took his team to the winner’s circle for their post-game celebration…..We’re not just jerking his chain, when it was time, Bain did not complain, he did his job and did it well…..

Back to the basics of the game, for SEG…..Tobias was 2-2 with 2 doubles and one of those was a two-run double to give him 2 RBI’s on the night and stole 4 bases along with getting hit by a pitch twice and he scored two runs…..Blake Butler was 1-3 for SEG….Colby Keene was 0-2 with a walk and the game-winning SAC Fly RBI and one run scored….Dillon Barker went 1-3 with an RBI double…Justin Reece was 1-2 with a single and a BB….Tim Amick was 1-2 with a single, a BB and one run scored…..Craig Jacobelli was 1-3 with a single and one run scored……DJ Flinchum was 1-2 with a bunt single…..

For SWG…..Matt Orth was 2-3 with a two-run double and 3 RBI’s and one run scored…..Kyle Miller 3-4 with a double and two runs scored….Tyler Kellam 1-3….Sasha Polisetti had a BB and was HBP with one run scored…..

Again, a solid effort turned in by both teams in a playoff-type atmosphere, where the only thing that made tonight’s game off base a bit was the rain, but the teams, SEG and SWG had all their bases covered and they turned in a fine performance…..Solid outing by young Dallas Newton for SEG, who left the game with a 4-3 lead and then strong perseverence by reliever Autin Bain who kept the game in a postition where the Falcons had a chance to win and they did….

Next up for SWG at home versus Glenn on Friday night and for SEG they have Page coming up on Friday night……

  1. Good game. 2 quality teams make for good baseball even if the weather didn’t cooperate. These two may see each other again.

  2. I thought we might be hearing from a few more SEG fans on this one….That was a well-played by you guys last night and a big win….A great battle from the SWG Cowboys, but Southeast pulled it out….

Not a win to be taken lightly….SEG fans, be proud of those kids, they really represented you well last night and SWG, best of luck to you guys as you take on Glenn at home tomorrow night…..Sasha and Nishi are two young men that might make a name for themselves….For sure they are new to us here at the site this year……
