More from the Phenom Hoops Report on the Carolina Challenge with Jaquel Richmond and Christian Hairston

Courtesy of Rick Lewis from the Phenom Hoops Report on the players coming out of Dave Telep’s Carolina Challenge held last weekend at Raleigh Ravenscroft……Here is what the Phenom Hoops Report is saying about Jaquel Richmond and Christian Hairston…..

Player: 6’3 JaQuel Richmond

Hometown: High Point, NC

High School: High Point Wesleyan

Class: 2014

Phenom Hoop Report: Richmond “reclassed to 2014 when he transferred from
Greensboro Dudley to HP Wesleyan and the young guard will be one of the top
lead guards in the 2014 class in North Carolina. I’ve had the opportunity to
watch Richmond numerous times and must admit the DTCC was a “player
friendly” playground for him. Currently, Richmond is a strong PG with the
ability to attack the rim. He is a stronger finisher and he possesses a
nifty left to right crossover move that goes directly into a pull up jumper.
Richmond has good court vision and makes nice passes off the dribble. The
next improvement for Richmond on the horizon is to improve on his outside
shot. Currently, he has a “hitch” in his shot and sometimes his elbow does
flair which leads to some inconsistent outside shooting. If he can improve
upon his shooting mechanics, the sky is the limit for this talented PG.

Player: 6’7 Christian Hairston

Hometown: Greensboro, NC

High School: Greensboro Day

Class: 2013

Phenom Hoop Report: We first spotted Hairston at our NC Phenom 150 Fall
Evaluation Camp back in October. At that point in time, I thought he was a
lock for a MM program. Hairston transferred to Greensboro Day and went
through a transition period and did not live up to my lofty evaluation at
our event. In addition, Hairston wasn’t even on the original list of
invitees for the 5th Annual DTCC, but with a few injuries to Tyler Lewis and
Greg McClinton, Hairston got a last minute invite. That being said, Hairston
made the most out of his opportunity and averaged almost 13 PPG. More
importantly, Hairston showcased a beautiful shooting stroke from the 3 point
line knocking down five 3 pointers in his last game of the day. Hairston
does possess good ball handling skills and has good court vision for a WF,
but his biggest strength is his ability to knock down consistent 3 point
shots.

  1. Christian Hairston is a good player and transferred to Greensboro Day. They sit him and another tall kid on the bench that was probley the best two players on the team and Jonathan Terry.
