Kyle Wooden Guilford College Student Athlete of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. –Kyle Wooden (Stillwell, Kan./Sun Valley (N.C.)) of
the baseball team earned Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week Award
Monday, presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Wooden, a senior first baseman, went eight-for-14 with a double, a home run,
and six RBIs in Guilford’s 3-0 week. He recorded six hits and five RBIs in
the Quakers’ first two-game sweep of Virginia Wesleyan College Apr. 2. In
the first game, Wooden went two-for-four with a home run and two RBIs,
sealing Guilford’s 5-3 victory. In the second matchup, he went four-for-six
at the plate, including a double and three RBIs, in the 18-6 Quakers’ win. He
also had two hits and an RBI in Guilford’s 11-3 win over cross-town rival
Greensboro College Mar. 29. Wooden had a .857 slugging percentage and a
.647 on-base percentage over the past three games, and is on an eight-game
hitting streak.

Wooden boosted his average to a league-leading .500 and raised his
league-leading on-base percentage to .559. He stands fourth in the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with 11 doubles and boasts a .681
slugging percentage, the league’s second-highest figure. Wooden leads the
Quakers with two homers and 20 RBI.

Head coach *Nick Black*’s Quakers (14-16, 7-5 ODAC) have won four straight
games and five of their last six outings. Their next game is against
Greensboro Tuesday (4/5) at War Memorial Stadium.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which
is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams.
The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and
seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and
non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer
awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the
North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
