Guilford College baseball gains split today at Ashland, Virginia versus RMC Yellowjackets(Wooden and Cornelius active for Quakers)..

ASHLAND, Va. – Brian Jordan went four-for-five with three RBI in
Randolph-Macon College’s 14-4 baseball win over Guilford College Saturday.
The triumph gained a split of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
twinbill after the Quakers took game one, 4-2.

In the opener, Guilford sophomore Will James (3-3) scattered eight hits and
fanned four in his first college complete game. Classmate Ben Esser belted a
two-run homer down the left field line in the fourth inning and Guilford
(15-19, 8-6 ODAC) added two unearned runs in the fifth that opened a 4-1
lead. Cory Jackson’s RBI double in the seventh made it a 4-2 game, but
Jackson was thrown out at the plate on Michael Helbig’s single, which ended
the inning. James retired five of Randolph-Macon’s final six batters, three
via strikeout, to preserve his team-leading third win of the season.

Kyle Wooden and Jay Cox both had two hits for Guilford in the opener.
Jackson, Helbig, Greg Mitro and Jay Lichter each had two hits to account for
the Yellow Jackets’ eight hits in game one.

Guilford scored three runs in the first off of Helbig (6-2) in the nightcap,
but the Yellow Jackets answered with three off of Guilford starter Zach Daw
(2-3) in the bottom of the frame. Randolph-Macon (15-16, 9-6 ODAC) converted
three Guilford errors into five unearned runs and took a 9-3 lead after five
innings. Jackson’s two-run double highlighted a four-run fourth.

Helbig settled in and pitched seven innings for his team-leading sixth win
of the year. Jordan Walton went three-for-three with a double and an RBI for
Randolph-Macon, which totaled 17 hits in the nightcap. Jackson, Jake
Fletcher and Peter Culver each added two hits.

Kyle Wooden and Will Cornelius both had two hits and an RBI for Guilford in
game two.

The Quakers visit league-rival Emory & Henry College Wednesday (4/13) in a
league doubleheader rescheduled from March.
