HS Baseball Tonight for 5/4/11: NWG(16 K’s for Haack) and SWG(8 innings vs. HPC) both win in tournament and will meet in next round, McMichael eases past Williams behind Biggs

Watching for a Ragsdale-East Forsyth update from Mr. Sparks or Mr. Ellis….

McMichael 5
Burlington Williams 4

WP: Landon Biggs(8-2)

Southwest Guilford 6
High Point Central 5
(8 innings)
WP:Kyle Miller…Key Double for Matt Dale(SWG)
LP:Seth Beane….Beane took the loss in relief for HPC and this ends a very solid effort by this senior, in his last game for the High Point Central Bison….We congratulate Mr. Seth Beane, on very strong career for the HP Central Bison….He worked hard and we wish him the very best in college…..
HPC led early 5-1 in the this game and in our first report the Bison were trying to hang on and get the upset win….Trevor Gay got the start for HPC and Andrew Madden started for SWG…..HPC was looking to Seth Beane to come in from the bullpen and SWG went to Kyle Miller….

Northwest Guilford 8
Winston-Salem Parkland 0

WP:Keaton Haack….Haack pitched a one-hitter and struck out 16 WS Parkland batters and he sent down the first 9 nine Mustang hitters that he faced in the game in order by strikeout….
LP:Keenan Martin
HR’s(NWG) Grand Slam home run for Nick Mahaffey…Two-run home run for Chris Corbett…..Time of Game…1:34 with attendance estimated at a COLD windy 175 fans….

NWG hitting:Adam Swim 2-3 with a BB and 2 runs scored…Chris Corbett 2-4 with the two-run HR and 2 runs scored….Keaton Haack 2-4 with a Double, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored….Jackson Bellenkes 0-2 with 2 BB’s and 1 run scored….Nick Mahaffey 2-3 with the Grand Slam home run, 1 run scored and 5 RBI’s…..Matt Bond 1-3…..

Keaton Haack on the hill for NWG…..0 runs on 1 with 16 K’s and one IBB and that was about it….Ryan Hankins got the WS Parkland lone hit and Michael Trueblood reached on a error by NWG and again, that was about it…..Trueblood took second on the throw to first and then advanced to third on a SAC bunt by Carlyle Beatty and when Hankins got his single, he was thrown out at second trying to steal on a great throw by NWG Viking catcher Adam Swim…..

  1. kinda funny the difference in the write up from the 8 -5 Parkland win (nothing) and the 8 – 0 NW win (novel) just seems strange

  2. What info did you submit on the Parkland win? Probably not much. Andy cannot be at all games and give in depth details for the games he’s not at. He relies on us to send him things.

  3. The one Parkland hit was mentioned. If you want more print…..get more hits.

  4. Andy- Just wanted to let you know that The Oak Ridge Military Academy finished up its season at 17-12 and we played a very tough schedule. Good wins over Glenn HS and Randleman HS. Tough loses to Glenn, Davie County, Durham Jordan and Chapel Hill HS. Went 5-4 in three different Easter Tournaments includind a 5-4 extra inning lose vs. a NJ HS Team in The Beach Diamond Classic at West Brunswick HS. My seniors are getting some attention. Lashawn Brown is going to visit Brunswick CC (Ranked 8th) next week as well as GTCC. Nick Taylor and Edwin Soto are on a visit right now to Pfieffer and Nick is also being pursued by Catawba. Tyler Webb is going to Guilford College. It was a very enjoyable year for me. As like all the teams I coach, we started off slow but as the kids buy in to what I’m trying to do, they get better and better. I will use the next few weeks to push for my guys for The All Area Team. I’m finalizing my stats now and I will start campaigning ASAP. Thanks to all my guys for playing so hard ALL YEAR!

  5. Did not attend the NWG-Parkland game on Monday, was at the SWG-East Forsyth game….Was at the NWG-WS Parkland game last night and that is why that game got the big write-up…..We tend to give more pop to the Guilford County teams since we are closest to them….Always easier to get more on a game when you are at the game….Parkland was strong early with the game 1-0 and 2-0 NWG until the Grand Slam by the senior Mahaffey and then the two-run shot came and Northwest blew the game open….The story of the game early and pretty much throughout, was the effort of Keaton Haack with the 16 K’s….He was strong and he could be strong again if NWG makes it to Monday and the championship game…Haack throws extremely hard and you can hear it on his release, almost like the grunt of a tennis player on their serve….Haack puts a lot into his work and we attempt to do the same here in our efforts to report these games….

  6. Andy…dont feel it necessary to answer to comments like that. For the most part, everyone knows that you rely on your folks in the field to provide information on games that you dont attend. In reading ‘baseball fan’s’ comment initially, it appeared to me more of a knock on the NW folks reporting the details of the game than at you…either way, so what. In any case, good job by the Vikes to rebound from Monday and come out strong on Wednesday. Lastly, credit to Parkland’s players and coaches. They have some outstanding athletes, play good defensive, and seem to remain very positive.

    Grey

  7. Good points Grey and it all does make for some interesting conversation and if we could get the guy that does the PA work at the Northwest Guilford baseball games to break all this down, then we would really have some interesting conversation going on with the Port-a-Johns, the taxidermy, and many other necessities thrown in for good measure….The NWG PA man is one of a kind and his kind is way out there, but it does make for entertaining baseball at NWG….

  8. I apologize to anyone who was offended by earlier comment it definitly was not toward Andy, he does a wonderful service to us fans. It was meant to be a fun jab at NW folks for not reporting anything on the loss, sorry for my weak sense of humor.

  9. Not a problem on my end….We need that system of checks and balances…..Sometimes when you get fired up, you work harder and get better at the finish….Good call on your end and keep bringing the comments, good, bad or indifferent…..
