GTCC Titans come up just a bit short in Region X Finals, but have best season in school history

The GTCC Titans baseball team’s run at the Region X Championship ended with a loss
to Pitt CC on Tuesday night by the score of 9-8. The Titans defeated USC-Sumter in
an elimination game earlier in the day by the score of 7-2. The loss ends the
season for the Titans, who finish the season as Region X Runners-up. It was also
the first winning season for the Titans with a 24-15 overall record.

In the first game, GTCC rode the shoulders of starting pitcher Clint Ingram as they
took down # 8 USC-Sumter for the second time in the tournament. Victor Morel and
Zach Burkhart had 2 hits apiece for the Titans, but the story of the game was
Ingram. Ingram dominated from the 1st inning and picked up the complete game win
for the Titans, striking out 7 and allowing only 5 hits and 1 earned run. It was
Ingram’s 4th win of the season.

Game 2 saw the Titans race to an early 3-0 lead over the Pitt CC Bulldogs. Pitt
rallied, scoring 6 runs in the 4th inning and taking a 3-run advantage. The Titans
answered with a 2-run single by Victor Morel in the 6th inning, and a two-run home
run by Kevin Sanders in the 7th inning to take a 1-run lead, 7-6. The Titans tacked
on another run and held an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Bulldogs
took advantage of a questionable call by the field umpire and rallied for 2 runs of
their own in the bottom of the 8th to tie the score at 8. With the score knotted at
8 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Pitt took advantage of a Titan walk and error to
put runners on the corners with one out, and ultimately singled home the winning run
with 1 out. Trevor Leonard and Victor Morel had 3 hits for the Titans, and Corey
McKinney(Northwest Guilford High School) and Kyle Brandenburg(Ragsdale High School) added 2 hits apiece as well.
