Close win a good win, as SEG Lady Falcons take Metro 4-A Softball Title:Southeast Softball #1!

Southeast Guilford Lady Falcon Softball team captures the Metro 4-A
Conference Tournament Crown by defeating Southern Alamance 3-2.

For the second year straight the Lady Falcons defeat the Patriots
for the conference tournament title. Last year Aryn Laws pitched a
great game and got the 11-1 win, this year Celeste Sheppard pitched an
outstanding game and gets the win.

Celeste fanned four of the Patriots, walked two and allowed three hits. Southeast’s Brianna Webb got the first hit of the game with a right field line drive for a stand up double in the bottom of the first but was left on base. The Patriots scored two in the second when SEG allowed a walk, a hit and a three errors.

Patriot pitcher Jackie Nicholson kept SEG off balance most of the game
until the sixth inning. The Lady Falcons then hammered out three singles in a row to tie the score. In the bottom of the seventh Jessica Willard draws a walk and steals second then shortstop Brittany Vaughn also draws a walk. Freshman center fielder Kara Shutt gets an outside pitch and loops it into left center. Patriot outfielder Ivey Griffin makes a diving attempt but the ball drops in for a hit and
Willard scores the winning run.

This is the first time Southeast has won the conference season championship and the conference tournament championship since joining the Metro 4-A Conference. The Lady Falcons are now 17-5.

The Lady Falcons will host their first round game of the state playoffs on Tuesday.

Congratualations to the Southeast Guilford Lady Falcons’ Softball Team…..

from the Burlington Times-News:
GREENSBORO — For most of the Metro Conference Tournament final for girls’ softball, the Southeast Guilford batters couldn’t get around on the blazing pitches of Southern Alamance’s Jackie Nicholson.

In a bit of cruel irony, that’s one of the reasons Southeast Guilford was able to pull out a 3-2 victory Thursday night.

The Falcons pushed in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kara Shutt singled home Jessica Willard, who had walked, as top-seeded Southeast Guilford beat the Patriots for the third time this season.
