Driving by General Greene School on Benjamin Parkway today, did a double-take and had to turn around and go back to the school’s main parking lot….
What I saw, or didn’t see really got my attention….I looked over toward the basketball court and the goals were gone….
GONE…..There no more….They disappeared….
Last year they removed the basketball goals at Vandalia Elementary School, over on Vandalia Road and now the goals are gone at General Greene, on Benjamin Parkway….
I was playing basketball on those goals back in 1980 and played ball there on those goals, this past fall and winter…..In the fall, in the winter, in the spring and in the summer, I have shot and played basketball on those General Greene goals forever, it seems like…..
Now they are GONE……..
Makes you wonder about the future of the schools and just exactly what they are giving/teaching? Is it a true education? What have they done with our schools, inside and outside of the local community, when they take down the neighborhood basketball goals…..The outdoor physical education, is the key to our future and to our overall physical survival, past the age of 75-80….
The research is in and for the sake of the children, it looks like the goals are out….
I spoke to a teacher at the school after I had parked my car and went over to the court, to inspect for myself, the spot where the goals once stood….
I approached the teacher and qualified that she was a teacher, by asking her if she taught there at General Greene and she said she did…..”The basketball goals are gone, I asked her”, looking somewhat like a dejected basketball player/fan, or like some sort of investigative reporter……
“The goals are GONE”, replied the teacher from General Greene School, “they have taken them down, but they will be replaced”…..With what I wondered, the Wal-Mart plastic specials, like they stuck up over at Vandalia Elementary, after the Real McCoys came down last year?????
My gut feeling is the GOALS are GONE, never to return at GENERAL GREENE and Greensboro is worse off for it……
We are on course/court for a game of 16, win by 2; and the score is:
Unusable Education 16
Physical Education 0…….
I smell a skunk…..
