Dennis White delves into Dudley’s Den and talks Panther football with Coach Steven Davis(Panthers in 7 on 7 Saturday)

Dennis White Greensboro Sports Reporter had a chance to talk with Dudley Panthers head football Coach Steven Davis. When asked about the past, Davis mentioned the success he had with the Panthers winning 2 back to back state championships and having a lot of winning seasons coached Davis gave credit to his coaching staff and to all of the players who bought into his program. Coach Davis is very excited about this years’ football team. With Dudley Junior Varsity football team coming off a great season a lot of those guys will be moving up to Varsity along with a long list of other players who are on the roster. Losing a lot of his key players to graduation, Coach Davis will look to that group of JV players and to his existing players on the roster to fill the shoes of Gaylord, Jones, Bell, Reynolds, and others who left Dudley with State Championship rings. And coming off of a 9 – 4 season last year for the Panthers, to have a good year Davis will look to Senior guys returning such as Keenon Sharpe, Demetrius McCorkle, Richard Hayes, and Brandon Reynolds.

Keenon Sharpe (Full Back) who will also play as a linebacker. As well as, Demetrius McCorkle (Running Back) whom Coach Davis speaks very highly of and is looking forward to him to do an outstanding job for the Panthers on both sides of the ball and picking up where he left off from last year before he was injured. Coach Davis will rely on his QB and field general Richard Hayes a rising junior to carry this team to where they need to go on this season. Also Coach Davis stated that he will be looking for good things from his strong group of offense lineman to step up to the plate and help out his team. Coach Davis is also looking for big things from Brandon Reynolds the cousin of Jeremy Reynolds who is now a Texas Tech to do big things for the Panthers. Coach Davis stated that Brandon is just that athletic as Jeremy was. Dudley has been know to have a great and hard hitting defensive team. Coach Davis is looking for some big things out of Albert McLean at defensive tackle Chris Register who are rising sophomores to do an outstanding job along with Brendan Reynolds and Keenon Sharpe at linebacker and McCorkle in the secondary. Coach Davis also stated that he is looking for all of the other hard-working Panthers to step up and do an outstanding job for the 2011 season with dedication hard work and commitment to a program who has a winning tradition, great fans and a good coaching and staff could good a long way this year. Dudley will be participating in this Saturday’s 7 on 7 at Easteren High School in Holt Brothers Classic.

  1. Love the way Coach Davis set up this seasons non conference , loaded with powerhouse teams. This D BOYZ Dad will be in the house , I plan on watching every game this year .
    Go Panthers!

  2. Oh wow looking forward to this team but Andy,I was surprised the other night I attended the sw v grimsley 7 on 7 and southwest defense was looking great out there with nice play from linebackers I don’t think they let grimsley score but also sw offense was looking good thier QB has a arm but is probably 5,9 but he had some fire behind throws..but could you possible find out who thier QB is)

  3. Halon…sw played the seven on seven with eight defenders and Grimsley scored 3 times. Grimsley travels to Richmond County Tuesday night, has SW again Wed. And will be at NEG Thursday. Whirlies are gettin better.

  4. D- BOYZ IN THE HOUSE = BAD NEWS !!! cant wait to see the D-BOYZ back in action this season… after a disappointing 9-4 season filled with injuries and hardship the panther nation is expecting a huge bounce back with the young athletes and big time hogs up front…. the panthers are looking to battle for the metro 4a title this year… the panthers are back on the prowl!!!

  5. No,Actually SW had 7 defenders why make exuses, and i noticed they didn’t even have thier top linebacker brandon banks?
and grimsley didnt score 3 times, they probably scored once which was a lucky route they kept running to the outside..
    and well see this wednsday.

  6. were we watching the same 7 on 7,grimsley scored at least twice, didn’t see the same account that was given on here. Yes, the whirlies are improving and taking giant steps. The surprise might be on the haters this season . . .we shall see !
