High Point Post 87 punched its ticket to the American Legion state tournament Friday evening in Asheboro, defeating Randolph County 8-4 to win the Area III “A” bracket. The Junior HiToms will begin a best-of-3 series with Rowan County today at Newman Park in Salisbury, which will determine the No 1 seed from Area III for the state tournament to be held in Morehead City July 21-25.
Against Post 45, the HiToms broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run seventh inning to make it 8-3. Randolph could manage only one more run after that as their season came to an end at 21-10.
Sean Geoghegan (7-1) once again was brilliant on the mound firing eight innings of nine-hit ball and 12 strikeouts.
At the plate, Chris Ferrante had three hits and two RBIs, Mike Whited had two hits and two runs, Seth Beane two hits with a run and RBI and DeSean Anderson had two RBIs to go with his sixth home run of the year.
HIgh Point improves to 19-8 for the season.

HiToms Post 87 took the first game of the Region III championship series 6-5 from Rowan County. They play Sunday at Finch Field at 7:00 pm.
