  1. The West do not lose due to their guard play. Megan and other girls did fine with the ball handling. The primary reason that the West lost was due to them unable to hit easy jump shots from 8-12 feet and finishing under the basket. When the West would miss easy shots that is where the guard play was hurting. The East was far more athletic and much faster on the break than the West. There were several girls that were not on this team for the West that would have made a significant difference – (I am not sure of their names but the young lady from Reynolds that use to play at Bishop and the young lady from Bulter HS in Charlotte that is going to Tennessee). At least these 2 ladies can run the floor and actually hit shots.

  2. Whitney Knight out of Reynolds, Cierra Burdick from Butler, and Desiree Drayton from Dudley could have helped make a difference…..Even Miranda Jenkins from Eastern Guilford could have helped out……She knows how to play a guys type basketball game and the East was quicker…..

Most of the girls, like the guys are already off at college getting a head start on the fall semester…..

  3. I was at the game last night and thought that the East girls were much quicker at the guard positions as well as the forwards. The West guards were not able to penetrate the gaps and finish or dish. The West forwards tried to play rough but Melvin was too strong for them. and they had a hard time beating their opponent off the dribble as well. At the next level one must be able to beat their opponent off the dribble unless they are a center.

  4. Also running into an opponent and falling down looking for a foul will only get stares from college refs as oppose to calls that one may get in high school. Quickness, agility and the ability to adjust to more skilled athletic players is where the seperation will come.

  5. The point guard and the 2 guard have to be able to beat someone off the dribble. The 3 and 4 can spot up or have some decent post moves and do quite well. If they played aau style ball in college, then they would have to beat someone off the dribble. I was at the game as well and I was not impressed with the talent. It looked like an aau game.

I agree. I believe the fans were cheated to a certain extinct by not having some young players from this area whom really deserved to be there. Fast fowarding, based on what was selected this year, there is not way any athlete in this area should be selected next year.

  7. @ Shirley–

I agree with your comment about not having some young players from this area. I’m sure well, positive if Miranda Jenkins was here to play in that game, she would’ve contributed in many ways.

I’m looking forward to following her basketball career at Stoneybrook.

  8. Ever since Whitney decided not to go to Duke or any other North Carolina school, the media in this area switch the script on her. She played at Bishop and was the top player there. She did even better at Reynolds.
