NC Gaters 10U Team takes 2nd Place at AAU Nationals(Another fine job by a Greensboro basketball team)

The NC Gaters 10u captured 2nd place in the 2011 AAU National Basketball Tournament
out of 60 teams. The 3 time NC AAU champs defeated Georgia Kings (World Wide) 50-40,
Team Texas 60-40 and All Ohio Purple 55-38 in pool play. This was the most
challenging pool in the tourney as Georgia Kings placed 5th, All Ohio Purple were
Champs in the Classic Bracket and Team Texas were runner up in the Classic Bracket.
The Gaters went on to defeat E1T1 (Florida) 46-44, Charlotte Royals 46-38, Memphis
Wareagles (#1 Team in the Country coming into the tourney) 50-43 and Fairfax Stars
(#6 team coming into the tourney) 43-35 in bracket play. The Gaters lost to All Ohio
Red in the championship game 48-36. The members of the 10u Gaters’ team: Nick Brown,
Nicholas Cheeley, Khalid Davis, Mike Green, Keyshaun Langley, Kobe Langley, Landon
Sutton, Logan Thompson, Jeremiah Wilson, Coach Clyde Brown, Coach Darryl Cheeley and
Coach Keyford Langley, Sr.

  1. I am so proud of this team. No one gave them a shot at making it to the finals.The week was physically, mentally and emotionally draining for all that were involved. 9 perimeter players versus big and I mean big 10 year olds every game! All heart! I would like to thank the community for supporting our team. Several people in the area offered places to practice, raise money or gave their time to the team. Great parents + Great kids = Great AAU Experience. What a season!!! I wish parents, kids and coaches could experience the season that we had this year.

  2. The parents are the most important part of the equation. If they have a level head and act like adults, it can be a great experience. If they are helicopter parents and think their children are the best, it can be a terrible experience. I am happy for you that you had a great experience because you have about a 50-50 chance of being a part of something good.
