Daughters Of Former ECU Basketball Star Blue Edwards To Suit Up For ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Britny and Whitny Edwards, daughters of former Pirate basketball
standout Blue Edwards, have completed grant-in-aid agreements to attend East
Carolina University and play basketball beginning in the fall according to an
announcement by head coach Heather Macy.

The twins join ECU after playing for the University of Virginia. Both will be
immediately eligible to compete for the Pirates after graduating from the
Charlottesville-based institution in just three years. Whitny has one year of
eligibility remaining while Britny owns two seasons due to redshirting the 2010-11

“Britny and Whitny come to us from a family that is very familiar with ECU and the
pride we take in our athletic teams,” Macy said. “These two are not only talented
basketball players, but student-athletes with character, passion and drive. We love
their experience level as they will bring maturity to our team.”

Whitny Edwards, a 5-11 guard, played in all 35 contests for the Cavaliers last
season, making nine starts while averaging 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. She
was second on the squad in three-point field goals made with 32 while owning the top
free throw percentage mark at .840 (42-of-50). Edwards also tied for the team lead
with 43 steals.

During the 2009-10 campaign, Edwards contributed 6.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per
contest in 31 appearances and 10 starts. She finished third on the team in free
throw shooting, connecting on 32-of-40 attempts (.800). She also scored in double
figures on eight occasions, including two career-high 17-point performances (Nov. 26
vs. Indiana and Dec. 8 vs. Furman).

In the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Edwards set a new career-high with
five steals against Green Bay while adding nine points and five rebounds.

As a freshman, Edwards averaged 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds and scored in double
figures six times. In her first career NCAA Tournament appearance against Marist,
she scored six points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists. Other
double-digit scoring performances included a 15-point outburst opposite Utah in the
WBCA Classic and a 12-point effort in a contest with Rider. Additionally, Edwards
had two double-digit rebounding efforts – hauling down a career-high 12 vs. High
Point and 11 vs. Colorado.

Britny Edwards, a 6-1 forward, appeared in 23 games as a sophomore at Virginia,
putting in two points and pulling down two rebounds. She reached double digits in
scoring and set a career high with 12 points vs. Longwood along with six rebounds,
two assists and two blocks.
Playing a season-high 25 minutes against Georgia Tech, she scored eight points and
had six rebounds. Edwards then followed up that performance with a six-point,
five-rebound effort vs. N.C. State.

She played in 20 contests off the bench her freshman campaign, scoring and snatching
then career highs in scoring and rebounds (five each).

Both players were standout athletes for Providence High School in Charlotte, N.C.,
earning North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) All-State
and All-Conference selection. Whitny was ranked as the fourth-best shooting prospect
in the state her senior year and both received an invitation to the Nike Skills
Academy. They also played their AAU basketball with the Tennessee Flight.

With its 2011-12 roster now complete, ECU will begin practice in October before
opening its campaign at the College of Charleston Nov. 11.
